Description
Lead HMC’s technical efforts through management of the Laboratory, QC and R&D teams. Ensure high product and process quality are maintained and improved. Lead Research and Development by designing and implementing strategic plans and executing the development of new products from concept to commercialisation. Work with internal and external parties to achieve HMCs Strategic business objectives.

Responsibility/Activity
Strategically Manage New Product Development
- Provide Leadership in Research & Development.
- Plan and develop new or improved product concepts and platforms through market analysis, prior art evaluation and ideation processes, with a strong commercial focus
- Lead and drive development work within R&D Team to expedite successful outcomes.
- Lead product-based production trial teams to complete technology transfer from laboratory to manufacturing.
Quality & Laboratory Testing
- Manage product quality through quality compliance testing of finished product.
- Responsible for the management of the Lab and Lab Services in accordance with Quality Standards.
- Enhance testing capability with new equipment.
- Provide expert knowledge of test methods as part of in-process troubleshooting.
- As required manage technical discussions with customers regarding product quality from test results or customer quality complaints.
- Manage Lab databases, information and lab procedures. Identify areas for improvement in SOP’s and document changes.
- Sign-off and completion for respective parts for production trials, raw material, or process changes
- Maintain and improve formulations and BOMs in ERP system in collaboration with Finance and Production.
- Manage Rework and Flush levels and ensure appropriate use in production. Manage SLOBS levels.
Team/Staff Management
- Create a motivated and capable team where communication is key, understanding individual and collective needs.
- Train direct report/staff in both QC & R&D teams in procedures, commercial experimental design and task management.
- Support and mentor direct and wider team to achieve the best professional development and business outcomes.
- Manage conflict resolution to maintain a sustainable working environment.
Manage Production Capability Enhancements
- Providing technical advice and project manage cross-functional teams across Manufacturing, Engineering and Technology & Innovation teams to deliver day to day and major production enhancement outcomes.
- Plan and oversee the implementation of new formulations and processes to increase productivity.
- Analyse complex production and quality data and through root cause analysis isolate pertinent variables for further research.
Cross-Business & External Collaboration
- Maintain a strong collaborative approach with key stakeholders across the business, including Sales & Marketing, Procurement, Manufacturing and Engineering teams.
- Expedite project and development outcomes by leveraging internal and external relationships.
